Down Lisburn Area

Age Concern Northern Ireland have established a close partnership with Down Lisburn Health & Social Services Trust and the Eastern Area Investing for Health Partnership to develop programmes aimed at improving the lives of older people in the Down Lisburn Trust area.

Key highlights of 2005/06 have included the delivery of a wide and varied range of programmes aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of older people including:

  • 56 older participating within a 6 week, cooking for one training course;
  • Complementary therapy sessions delivered with 10 groups leading to reports from participants of improved circulation and improved sleeping;
  • 10 older people participated within a arts course delivered in conjunction with Down community Arts;
  • Benefits checks completed with 6 older peoples groups;
  • Health checks completed for 14 older peoples groups;
  • Comprehensive 6 week health course for 23 older people in Newcastle

The year also saw the securing of funding from Northern Ireland Electricity for the delivery of a fuel poverty scheme within the Dunmurray and Newcastle areas for 20 older people’s homes during 2006/07.
